TOEM celebrates first anniversary with new region

On Monday, developers Something We Made announced that they are releasing a new region in BAFTA award-winning photography game TOEM to celebrate its first anniversary. This update will be available for PC players via Steam on September 16, and for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 soon after, though there’s no set release date for consoles yet.

In TOEM, you play as a young person taking a sort of coming-of-age journey to climb to the top of a local mountain to witness the natural phenomenon of TOEM. Along the way, you use the camera your grandmother gave you to take photos that help out the residents of the various areas you travel to. The game is focused on community building and trying to be helpful – you even get your all-inclusive bus pass updated by completing quests the locals are looking for assistance with.

The new region being added for the game’s anniversary is called “Basto,” and is the largest area in TOEM yet. Here, players will find new quests, secrets, animals to photograph, mini-games, and more. This update will be free for all players, and will unlock after completion of the main game. Once players have finished the game, they’ll be able to return to Homelanda to chat with their grandmother and access the new area. This update will also add a feature that completionists will be excited about: Steam achievements and PlayStation Network trophies. Now players will be able to document their adventures in this game with more than just photos.

To celebrate the anniversary and update launch, TOEM is 50% off on Steam for the next week. It’s also available to PlayStation Plus subscribers for free this month, just in time for the new update.
