Cyberpunk 2077 DLC to launch in 2023
On Tuesday, CD Projekt Red announced that downloadable content for Cyberpunk 2077 will launch sometime in 2023. This expansion to Night City is called Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty. The DLC will only be available for PC, Google Stadia, and next gen consoles like the PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Although the game is available on PS4 and Xbox One again, these consoles will not receive the DLC.
This DLC seems to be CD Projekt Red getting the game’s development timeline somewhat back on track, after the launch was plagued with bugs across platforms, and the PlayStation 4 version had to be pulled from stores due to its inability to run on the console.
Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty seems to have a decidedly nationalistic bent to it, which is a bit odd, given the main game’s focus on allowing players to shape V’s personality. The reveal trailer has V taking an oath to “faithfully serve the New United States of America,” as dictated by some sort of military officer in a white jacket. As V recites the oath, we see footage of blood and dead bodies on the floor of the White House. We also hear Johnny Silverhand’s voice telling V that taking the oath was a “bad idea.”
The reveal trailer has left most of what’s going on in Phantom Liberty vague, teasing players as to why V would be taking an oath like this, what’s going on with the country, and how Johnny and V’s relationship is doing. Players will have to wait for more information from CD Projekt Red to see what else Night City has in store for them.
