Nine Noir Lives gets new trailer for International Cat Day

To celebrate International Cat Day, Silvernode Games released a new trailer for their upcoming point-and-click adventure game, Nine Noir Lives. As the name implies, the game follows a cat private investigator named Cuddles Nutterbutter as he licks his way through a murder investigation.

According to the two-person team at Silvernode Games, Nine Noir Lives is inspired by “adventure game classics like Grim Fandango and Broken Sword, but it also draws inspiration from the works of classic film noir, Shakespeare, and Taika Waititi.” Detective Cuddles Nutterbutter and his assistant Tabby Marshmallow are tasked with solving a murder that has sent both the Montemeeuw and Catulet families of Meow Meow Furrington into a tizzy. The investigation will take them through hand-drawn scenes where they’ll meet several fully voice-acted NPCs and have to solve “devious” puzzles.

Players will be able to switch perspectives between Cuddles Nutterbutter and Tabby Marshmallow throughout the investigation. Players should expect plenty of cat puns as they explore the city of Meow Meow Furrington and lick pretty much anything you find.

The licking mechanic is the main focus of the International Cat Day trailer, which shows the adventure game style interaction button where licking is an option. The 50 second trailer does a lot to establish the tone of Nine Noir Lives as one that’s pretty light and silly, despite the murder in the background. Cuddles Nutterbutter can lick just about anything in the environment, and those around him, including anyone he licked, will react to it. Just because Cuddles can lick anything he wants, that doesn’t mean it’s a normal thing people are just cool with.

Nine Noir Lives will launch on PC and Mac via GOG and Steam on September 7, 2022. Players can check out a demo of the game now on those platforms.
