Beekeeping sim APICO is coming to Switch

On Wednesday, publisher Whitethorn Games (Wytchwood, Lake) and developer TNgineers announced that their cozy beekeeping sim APICO is coming to Nintendo Switch on July 7. The game is already live for PC players, but now fans will be able to look after their hives on the go and enjoy cross-platform play with PC players as well.

APICO first came out alongside World Bee Day on May 20, to help celebrate and raise awareness around bee conservation. A portion of the sales was dedicated to bee and beekeeping focused organizations around the world to aid in conservation efforts. It is unclear if this promotion will continue with the game’s Nintendo Switch sales.

Players will head to the islands of APICO to care for their own set of bee hives. The game uses real and fantasy aspects of beekeeping/gardening, combining them with biology and gathering to create mini-games to explore and beat. These islands were once home to many species of bees, so players have to take on the mission of bringing them back and rediscovering lost species. Players can also cross-breed new species of bees. With the new platform launch, players can now also enjoy cross-platform play with up to four players. APICO will be available for $19.99, and players can pre-order it now using the Nintendo Switch eshop.

In addition to the Nintendo Switch port, Whitethorn Games and TNgineers have partnered with Makeship – a company that manufactures limited edition items designed by creators – to create an adorable bee plushie named Beeatrice. She comes with little conversation bubble emotes as well, so you can have your Beeatrice be expressive. The plushies are numbered and tagged, so each one is unique. They’re also shipped with environmentally friendly materials and come inside a reusable drawstring bag. Fans can pre-order the Beeatrice plushie now for $27.99.
