Starfield and Redfall delayed to 2023
Starfield, the sci-fi RPG that has been described as the “next generation” by Bethesda, as well as Arkane Austin’s vampire-shooting-and-tooting FPS, Redfall, have both been delayed to 2023.
“We’ve made the decision to delay the launches of Redfall and Starfield to the first half of 2023,” Bethesda announced today, via Twitter. “The teams at Arkane Austin (Redfall) and Bethesda Game Studios (Starfield) have incredible ambitions for their games, and we want to ensure that you receive the best, most polished versions of them.”
“We want to thank everyone for their excitement for Redfall and Starfield. That energy is a huge part of what inspires all of us every day and drives our own excitement for what we are creating.” Bethesda continued, “we can’t wait to share our first deep dive into the gameplay for both Redfall and Starfield soon. Thank you for your support.”
The delay has moved both games to the first half of 2023, putting them in hot competition with not just one another, but the rumoured release of both Nintendo’s Breath of the Wild sequel, and Sony’s God of War: Ragnarok.
Both Redfall and Starfield were planned to release sometime in late 2022, with Starfield in particular having a release date of 11th of November – a date that, according to Jason Schreier, worried some of the developers. They feared that if they met that date, Starfield would quickly become the next Cyberpunk 2077 – a game plagued by bugs and false promises.
As for Redfall, it has yet to have anything significant revealed about it since it was revealed in Bethesda’s E3 Showcase last year. There were some leaks that appeared online a few months after which looked more than a little rough, but considering the game is still in development, that’s no real surprise.
The delay of these two games shouldn’t come as too much of a shock – video game development has been hindered due to the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the move to remote working. With that in mind, gamers should probably expect more delayed games in the future.
