MultiVersus beta is coming this July

On Monday, Warner Bros. Games and Player First Games released a new cinematic trailer for their upcoming free-to-play platform fighter, MultiVersus. The trailer showed off some of the characters players can expect in the game, including DC’s Batman, Shaggy from Scooby-Doo and the titular Iron Giant. The trailer also came with the announcement that a beta for MultiVersus will launch in July of 2022.

The trailer kicks off with Batman sitting at the Bat-computer before a “strange energy signal” registers and he’s teleported away to a mysterious island. Shaggy from Scooby-Doo soon joins him, giant sandwich in hand, just as confused as our caped crusader. The two then proceed to enter a battle with Loony Toons’ Bugs Bunny and Arya Stark from Game of Thrones. I won’t spoil what comes next, but if you’ve enjoyed the jokes about Shaggy going super-Saiyan in Mortal Kombat, this trailer is definitely for you.

MultiVersus is a free-to-play multiplayer where you and a teammate take on opponents in two-vs-two team battles with iconic WB and other characters like Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Harley Quinn, Velma, Shaggy, Bugs Bunny, Taz, Arya Stark, Tom & Jerry, Finn the Human, Jake the Dog, Steven Universe, Garnet, and the Iron Giant. More characters will be added to the game in the future.

Fans who are excited about MultiVersus now can sign up for the closed alpha, which will take place from May 19-27. The alpha will include 15 playable characters, seven different maps, and multiple modes to try, including the two-vs-two mode, The Lab practice mode, one-vs-one battles, and a four-player free-for-all. Those who aren’t able to check out the closed alpha will be able to participate in the game’s open beta in July.

The beta will be on both PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, and PC and will feature full cross-play support and server-based rollback netcode.
