Game Devs of Color Expo 2022 Online tickets on sale now

Tickets for the Game Devs of Color Expo 2022 Online event went on sale on Tuesday. The seventh annual GDoC Expo event is taking place from September 15-18. Each day will feature different speakers, games and experiences.

Game Devs of Color’s mission is to “amplify the creative power held by people of color in games.” They do this by “organizing revolutionary events, uniting our vibrant community, and building access to knowledge, funding, and opportunities.” The Game Devs of Color Expo is one such event, meant to show off and fund games created by this community and connect its members.

The first GDoC expo took place in 2016 as a small, in-person event, organized by Catt Small and Chris Algoo. Larger in-person events continued until 2020, when the event switched to an online-only format to protect against the spread of COVID-19. According to GDoC, attendance for the event has doubled since the online pivot, and has given $250,000 to game developers of color to date.

This year’s roster of speakers and games has yet to be revealed, but past shows have featured the likes of Validate developer Dani Lalonders, and Treachery in Beatdown City developer Shawn Alexander Allen, and games like Button City, Date Night Bowling, Garden Story, Innchanted, Last Legacy, and more.

There are three tiers of tickets available for purchase:

  • $20 – a lower cost option for those who can’t afford the full-priced Standard Pass
  • $50 Standard Pass – a regular price ticket for general event attendees
  • $100 Supporter Pass – a high cost ticket that supports the show’s general operations. GDoC recommends this option for corporate attendees or those who really want to support the event

Those who can’t afford tickets at any of these price points can also apply for need-based tickets through this form.

More information about the event will come out as we get closer to September.
