Dead by Daylight Portrait of a Murder chapter brings art to The Fog
Portrait of a Murder, the next chapter releasing sometime in November for Dead by Daylight, was teased via social media last week. Now it’s here on the Public Test Build and a new trailer showing off the new Killer, Carmina Mora aka The Artist, as well as the new Survivor, Jonah Vasquez.
“Portrait of a Murder is Dead by Daylight going back to its roots: an original story and universe, set in mystery, dark fantasy and fear,” explains Dave Richard, Creative Director of Dead by Daylight. “The new characters are also unique and diverse, which is part of our DNA, and representative of our player base.”
The last original Killer and Survivor combo chapter was The Trickster and Yun-Jin Lee, and that was back in early March. Now with The Artist and Jonah Vasquez, the creativity behind the developers over at Behaviour Interactive has once again received the chance to shine in this original chapter.
Portrait of a Murder includes the full package: a new Killer, a Survivor, and for the first time since the Resident Evil Dead by Daylight chapter, a new map called The Forsaken Boneyard.
The Artist is a unique killer that, much like her other Killer sisters, was warped by The Entity to become a grotesque vessel of vengeance – despite her former life being that of someone who was willing to use her art to expose local corruption. However with fame came death threats and eventually, Carmina and her friends were abducted, leading to Carmina’s wrists and tongue being severed. It was only when a murder of crows, who had saved her before, appeared and assaulted the assailants as well as her friends that Carmina was taken by The Entity. It only then did Carmina become The Artist.
As for Jonah Vasquez, he grew up to become a dedicated CIA codebreaker. Since he was a teenager though, Jonah ws plagued by a string of numbers that he just kept on seeing over and over again throughout his life. It was only when the numbers appeared again that he discovered a formula that took him to a lost cemetery in Chile – the same one that had witnessed the brutal destruction of a woman and her group of friends.
Both The Artist and Jonah are Latin American, with The Artist being Chilean and Jonah being born in Mexico. This chapter marks the first time Dead by Daylight has introduced a Mexican-American character into the game.
Despite speculation, it is also unknown whether Jonah or The Artist is the LGBTQ+ character that Behavior Interactive are working on with GaymerX.
Portrait of a Murder will release in November for $6.99 on the Microsoft Store, Steam as well as Stadia, and $7.99 via Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
Gamers who use the Epic Games Store will also be in for quite a surprise, as the DLC will also be available through the Epic Games Store once the game is released on that platform in December.
