Deltarune will cost more than queer favourite Undertale

There’s life-changing games and then there’s Undertale, a game that hooked many LGBTQ+ fans in with its non-binary protagonist and cute, queer couples. And now, because of the hard work of Undertale creator Toby Fox and the development team, there’s Deltarune.

Deltarune first sprung onto the scene three years ago in October, 2018. After the success of Undertale, it’s no surprise that the next game became such a hit already, despite it being a different story and following different characters. Despite the difference in story and world though, there were some familiar faces for players to see, such as Toriel and Undyne.

In Deltarune you follow a human teenager called Kris who, after being faced with a face-eating threat, finds themselves in the Dark World alongside their school bully, Susie. They later find out that, via a prophecy, they are meant to save the world.

The second chapter of Deltarune came out last week on September 18th for PC, and along with it came questions: will the wait for the next chapter be just as long? Will there really only be one ending? Are you positive that there’s no connection between Undertale and Deltarune whatsoever? And so on.

Toby Fox did their best to answer these questions in an update on their blog post, which not only thanked his team for all of their great support throughout the years, but revealed more about Deltarune’s chapters, as well as what we can expect when it comes to pricing. Unlike the first two chapters, chapters 3-5 will not be free.

“My next goal is to complete Chapters 3, 4 and 5 for next time. Then, at that time I will ask for people to buy the game, at the price of the first 5 chapters (including 1 and 2).” Fox stated. “I don’t know the price yet, but it’s definitely going to cost more than UNDERTALE.”

Fox never clarified when a release date would be available for the full game, but considering the length it took to get to chapter 2, we’d suggest fans not get their hopes up for it being anytime soon. In the meantime, there’s always the first two chapters of Deltarune to play and, if that isn’t tickling your Undertale tastebuds, the original game can be found on most platforms.
