The Waylanders release date is this November

The Waylanders is a funny little game, which might not be the best way to introduce this game when you’re here to learn more about the release date, but just hear me out for a second, alright?

The Waylanders is a game that when first released into early access struck me as a game with some serious potential, mostly because it appealed to the Dragon Age fan within me. It has top-down combat, fun companions, an intriguing storyline, and it had some serious backing with Mike Laidlaw as the creative director. Yes, Mike Laidlaw as in the same fella who was the creative director behind the Dragon Age series. So, the game already ticked off a lot of boxes. It wasn’t perfect, there were a lot of bugs and it felt a little clunky, but the potential was there.

Now with The Waylanders release date being revealed as November 16th via a trailer at Gamescom 2021, we now get to see just how far the talent over at Gato Studios has gone with creating this time-traveling RPG.

For those who aren’t sure what to expect, The Waylanders is an RPG that combines epic Celtic mythology with the methodical era of Medieval Spain. You play as a protagonist who acts as a conduit between those two worlds, able to move to and from there freely due to your power, meaning you’ll get to do intriguing things like messing with the past and getting to see how it affects what happens in the future. It’s very timey-wimey, and we mean that in a good way.

You aren’t alone on your adventures though. You’ll be joined by a number of different characters that are unique from one another and each have their own reason to join you, just like in the games that inspired The Waylanders such as Dragon Age: Origins, Baldur’s Gate, and Neverwinter Nights. And just like those games, there will be plenty of options to romance your companions as well, which means yes, that hot mage daddy in the header is kissable.

We’ve talked about The Waylanders before, particularly about the queer aspect of the game. We’ve since described it as a “queerer Dragon Age: Origins“, thanks to the game allowing you to partake in polyamorous romance, as well as express your sexuality, and find out about your companions through dialogue and story. Though don’t get too excited, because while you may be moving through the future, your non-immortal companions…well, they aren’t. And that makes your friendships and romances so much trickier.

If you’re intrigued and want to give The Waylanders a shot, then mark your calendar for the date November 16th where the game will release on Steam and GOG.
