Rainbow Royale returns for a second year in Fortnite

Rainbow Royale, a Pride-related event that took place in July last year, returns to Fortnite!

Last year the team at Epic shared a blog post on their official website, stating: “everyone is welcome on the Battle Bus, and this week we’re celebrating the amazing Fortnite LGBTQIA+ community!” They also featured a ton of different items and sprays, all of which celebrated Pride in some way.

This year Fortnite want to celebrate the Rainbow Royale again, this time pushing the event to September. However,

Up until July 27th, players are able to show their LGBT pride by going into the Fortnite store to grab: four Rainbow Royale sprays (Vibrant Heart, Vibrant Llama, Vibrant Boogie, and Vibrant Star), a Sunshine and Rainbow wrap for weapons, as well a ‘Take a Bow’ emote. Fortnite also included a rainbow flag prop into the game’s Creative mode. Very nice!

Music loved by the LGBT community has also been added for the Fortnite Rainbow Royale, including hits like Lil Nas X’s Montero, Troye Sivan’s STUD, and Hayley Kiyoko’s Found my Friends. You can find the full list of music here.

As to be expected, there have been some negative reactions towards players celebrating, something sadly typical when video games celebrate good causes. What really stood out to us while researching this piece is that people are curious about whether Epic supports the LGBT+ community in the first place. It’s true that, in reality, not a lot of players of the game will be interested in reading about it outside of guides, but it’s fascinating that players want to know more about this.

Or maybe we shouldn’t be too surprised about this wonderment at all. After all, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney did previously state that all politics should be kept outside of games.

Fortnite players have until July 27th to grab all these free Rainbow Royal LGBT items, so don’t miss out!
