Xbox Cloud Gaming opens up to Xbox Ultimate Game Pass members on PC and mobile

We’ve talked before about how Xbox is paving the way to a future where gaming with friends is as easy as breathing. Well now it only looks to get bigger and brighter for Microsoft, as Xbox Cloud Gaming is now officially open for Xbox Ultimate Game Pass members.

Announced via a trailer, as well as their official blog post, members of Xbox Ultimate Game Pass will now be able to head to xbox.com/play via Microsoft Edge, Google Chrome or Safari on their Window 10 PC, iOS and Android phones, as well as tablets. No matter what device you’ve got from the above, you’re going to be able to have access to at least 100 different games to choose from to play with. More importantly, you can play with friends from anywhere and everywhere, as Xbox Cloud Gaming – though currently in beta – is available across 22 countries!

As Vice President & Head of Product of Xbox Cloud Gaming, Catherine Gluckstein describes it: “simply put, we’re bringing the Xbox experience directly to the devices you use most.”

The Xbox Cloud Gaming experience has been massively improved, too. For one, Xbox Cloud Gaming is now powered by custom Xbox Series X hardware – making your experience not just fast, but also improving your frame rates, faster load times and a general, improved experience of the future of gaming. That said, to ensure high quality across all devices at all times, the service will only offer 1080p and up to 60fps. This may improve in the future as Xbox continues to innovate Xbox Cloud Gaming.

What really sells us on Xbox Cloud Gaming though is that not only can you seamlessly join your friends whenever you want, but that the game saves from where you left it. No matter what you’re doing, no matter if you decide to leave the game for a while, you can return from where you left and keep on playing.

Even more vital though is that custom controls will also be a significant factor for Xbox Cloud Gaming. According to the Xbox blog post, “one-in-six players who play from the cloud are exclusively using custom touch controls that are enabled for more than 50 games.” Of course, there’s always the possibility of using wireless Xbox controllers, as well as other supported controllers and mobile game accessories. If it enhances your gaming, then use it!

To end the blog Gluckstein simply stated: “Today marks a key milestone in our journey to bring the Xbox experience to all gamers, and we can’t wait for you to begin playing. I remember about three years ago, the first time I picked up a phone and played a cloud game, using nothing but touch controls. It’s a moment I’ll never forget, where the beauty of the graphics mixed with the creativity of technology to create something truly magical. So, from Team Xbox to you, we hope you experience more joy and connection through gaming anywhere and everywhere.”
