UNBEATABLE is a rhythm game where music is illegal – so let’s commit some

There’s something about an anime aesthetic, mixed with the queer undertones of being part of a group of outcasts that truly calls to us. In reality, we have no clue if UNBEATABLE – a game where music is illegal and you commit many, many crimes, is queer. But we can’t deny that there’s something about it that pulls at our interest.

Developed by D-CELL GAMES, UNBEATABLE is a game that combines the original music from Peak Divide with the 2D bubblegum, anime aesthetic to create a wild, musical adventure.

Players will take the role of Beat, a 19-year old girl that looks like the human embodiment of ‘talk shit, get hit’ who loves to sing. She’s decided to say a big ‘F U’ to the system and start-up her own band, bringing music to a world that tells her it’s illegal.

Beat won’t be on this adventure alone, however. She’s joined by Quaver, a blue-haired young girl who is as tenacious in personality as she is on the guitar, a sleepy keyboardist named Treble, as well as his spunky twin sister, Clef, on drums.

A rhythm game may sound off-putting to those who either are unable (for various reasons) to play such a demanding game, but fret not – D-CELL GAMES have included an Assist Mode. There will be several features in this mode, including colourblind options and controller support, but the one we’re most excited for is AUTOPLAY. With AUTOPLAY, Beat will automatically attack even if you mess up on the inputs, meaning players will get to enjoy the story without too much pressure.

At the time of writing this, the UNBEATABLE demo is not available to play. But it will be released sometime today.

If you’re interested in keeping up to date with UNBEATABLE, then head on over and support the game on Kickstarter.
