Queer inclusive game Errant Kingdom ditches the episodic format

Lunaris Games have decided that their queer-inclusive, fantasy game Errant Kingdom, will be moving away from the episodic format. Instead, supporters and players of the game will need to wait for the full release of the game.

In their statement on itch.io, Lunaris Games explained that they had decided to move away from the episodic format that they had in place for Errant Kingdom for a number of reasons. The first being the COVID-19 pandemic putting strain on the team, something which most game developers have admitted to struggling with. There have also been personal problems which the team did not clarify on, but all in all, it has led to difficulty in meeting Errant Kingdom’s update schedule.

While Errant Kingdom may have lost the episodic format, that doesn’t mean the team are fed-up or have left the game behind. If anything, Lunaris Games have decided to put the health and well-being of their team first, and that’s certainly something that they can’t be faulted for. They’ve also discovered that, as a team, they work better when they “tackle projects as a whole instead of episodically.”

Lunaris Games also acknowledged that they’d grown since the very beginning of Errant Kingdom, and as such they’ve figured out just how to work more effectively. They even have separate teams for Errant Kingdom and Call Me Under, now.

This may feel like a major blow to some fans who have been drawn in because of the episodic format but, in our opinion, you shouldn’t let this put you off. Errant Kingdom is an incredibly fun game, and its high fantasy mixed with political drama is exactly what keeps us gunning to play the full game when it’s released. Seriously, we love it – go check out our review.

Speaking of the release date… Lunaris Games haven’t confirmed an actual release date for the finished game, but has stated that this is because “issuing a release date is tricky for indie developers, especially in the current times.” That said, they inferred that the game itself will be finished (at the very least) in the next couple of months.
