Queer and disabled inclusive Pride and Prejudice demo now available to play

One of the biggest beliefs I have is that everything would simply just be a lot more rewarding if everything was just a little bit gay. Not even a lot of gay, but at least some kind of gayness involved. This is probably why I grew up wanting to read a queer Pride and Prejudice retelling.

Well even if nobody else has my back I know that at least indie creator Spiral Atlas, over on itch.io, has my back. Thank you friend, because your indie game Pride or Prejudice is just the queer remake that I was looking for.

Pride or Prejudice is a game that describes itself as a “beloved tale of romance, snark, and self-discovery,” something which we suppose could relate to the deeply heterosexual version of Pride and Prejudice, but not in the same way we can with this game. With this version, players will be able to customize their gender, appearance, pronouns, and can even give their character – or love interest – a wheelchair.

As of now, only the demo is available and it doesn’t have too much on offer apart from character creator and a few screens. However, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t give the creator some feedback, as if there’s something we need more of it’s room for inclusive games like this one.

Other features included in this demo are:

  • Gender-neutral character creator with the choice of pronouns, and the ability to use a wheelchair
  • Family members will match the skin tone chosen for your character
  • Three choices of text size

If you’re interested in trying the demo out – and getting that queer Pride and Prejudice remake that you’ve always wanted – head on over to the game’s page on itch.io.

Alternatively, if you’re looking for other regency based games with a queer spin on the original text then check out what we thought of Great Expectations game, My Dear Handel.
