Here are the best selling video games of December 2020
According to Venture Beat, video game sales were up 25% in December 2020 when compared to December 2019. This could be due in part to Christmas purchases and COVID-19 run-off. Regardless of the reason, it’s nice to finish off 2020 on a high note when it comes to the industry and media we know and love.
While I wasn’t a fan of Cyberpunk 2077, I expected that it would take the top spot in December. However, it debuted at #2 behind Call of Duty – which enjoyed a second month at #1. That said, this doesn’t include digital sales, so Cyberpunk 2077 may have actually managed to snag no.1 after all! Also, I find it crazy that Animal Crossing is still in the top 10 almost a year later, and that Super Mario 3D All-Stars debuted so low. Where’s the nostalgia?
These were the top 10 best selling video games of December 2020, according to NPD.
- Call of Duty: Black Ops: Cold War
- Cyberpunk 2077
- Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla
- Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales
- Madden NFL 21
- Animal Crossing: New Horizons
- Mario Kart 8: Deluxe
- NBA 2K21
- Immortals: Fenyx Rising
- Super Mario 3D All-Stars
What games did you buy last month?
If you take a look on the source for the list, for Cyberpunk 2077 digital sales are not included. While I have no idea how much the refunds for the game on different platform factor in, I would presume digital copies make up considerable amount of sales during the pendemic. So Cyberpunk 2077 may still be the best selling game of December (not that I would be sad if not).
And to answer the question: I bought no games last month because I still haven’t finished Hades.
