How would you feel about a Hamtaro reboot?

I want to see cute animals all the time. This is primarily the reason behind my Pokemon obsession. However, I’d like to find a game where I don’t have to raise lovable critters only to have them battle to the death for my enjoyment. With that in mind, let me reintroduce you to Hamtaro. And, yes, this article is somewhat inspired by my new pet hamster, Chewch.

Hamtaro started as a comic book series in 1997 before graduating to a full anime that lasted from 2002 to 2005. During that time, it became a worldwide hit – having started its run in Japan – thanks to a merchandise line, tie in movies and, of course, video games. No matter what incarnation hit the masses, they all followed leader hamster Hamtaro and his fellow rodents as they embarked on a number of silly adventures.

Between its initial launch and first reboot, Hamtaro was the focus of nine unique video games. While seven titles were released on Game Boy Color and Nintendo DS, one edition debuted on the PC and another was made available to iOS users. Every title became a yearly best seller in Japan and saw decent sales across the globe.

Due to Hamtaro’s history on handheld Nintendo consoles, I think it would be plausible that a new game could debut on the Nintendo Switch. This is for a variety of reasons. First, there is always a need for wholesome games for your children to play. Second, nostalgia is a big cash grab in recent years and a modern revival could be a big deal. But would The Switch overlords be interested in a new game?

Only time will tell. But the question remains, how do you feel about a Hamtaro reboot? And would you play the games?
