Studio Élan announces Summer at the Edge of the Universe, a lesbian visual novel

Studio Élan have only just gone and done it again! The creator behind some of the best romantic, yuri visual novels around, Studio Élan revealed their new project: Summer at the Edge of the Universe – a solarpunk, lesbian visual novel.

The reveal came from the studio’s official Twitter yesterday, with a trailer that let us see the person who’s name is literally in the title of the game. That’s right, meet Summer Nansen and she’s going to go on the adventure of a lifetime.

After several years without talking, a chance encounter brings four best friends back together for the journey they won’t soon forget. For Summer Nansen (voiced by Hikaru Station), this trip is a chance to not only rekindle old friendships, but also to discover what it is she wants out of life. She is joined by the spunky robot Curiosity, and the four girls travel from planet to planet, exploring the natural wonders and diverse alien cultures that they come across. Their journey culminates at the borderline of existence itself: the very edge of the universe. Because hey, that’s part of the title too!

But what about romance? Well, as to be expected, Summer will be able to find love throughout her journey. There are three routes, each cenetered around Summer’s friends. All routes contain both romantic and platonic endings.

It looks to be a visual novel that, and we say this with the utmost love, isn’t as dark as Studio Élan’s other works, like Heart of the Woods. In fact, the studio describes Summer at The Edge of the Universe as a more positive and uplifting experience, with one of the core tenets for the game being “good vibes only.

Are you interested in checking out Summer at the Edge of Universe? Sadly it’s still quite far away. But if you’re patient like us and can wait until summer 2021, you’ll be able to play the game on your PC, MacOS, Linux, Nintendo Switch, and PS4.
