Plague Tale takes the lead in NAVGTR Award Nominations

The NAVGTR, also known as the National Academy of Video Game Trade Reviewers, is a dedicated, non-profit media organization that honors video game art, technology, and production. It has 820 media voters and 9,500 subscribers.

It also has over 57 competitive categories that formally recognizes game design, cinematics, animation game engineering, musical score, sound effects, writing, and more. Since its inception, the academy has recognized over 3,600 talented individuals.

Recently the NAVGTR have announced their 19th annual awards, with Asobo Studio’s A Plague Tale: Innocence, taking the lead with 18 different nominations from technical and artistic animation to the direction in game cinematics. The only other game that comes close to getting that many animations is Astral Chain, with 10 nominations overall.

A Plague Tale: Innocence is a game that mostly flew under the radar for gamers, but was well-loved enough to be included in our Game of the Year 2019. It didn’t win, but those who nominated the game spoke of it passionately, and as deputy editor Aimee Hart has said numerous times about the game and its characters: it’s all so good and I love them and it.

The game is set in 14th century France during The Hundreds Year War where a plague, born of a mysterious disease in the De Rune bloodline, has taken over the country. You play as Amicia, a young girl who’s life has been turned upside down after the majority of her family is slaughtered in front of her. All she has is her little brother Hugo, and together they must venture forth and do anything to survive.

With a premise like that, we’re not shocked that A Plague Tale: Innocence has taken the lead with so many nominations. The game was also nominated for best narrative during last year’s Video Game Awards and the 2019 Golden Joystick Awards.

The NAVGTR will announce the winners on February 24th. Keep your eyes glued to Gayming Magazine to see if Asobo Studio’s game will get some juicy awards or be left out in the cold with the rats.
