Two seasons of Critical Role’s animated series is coming to Amazon Prime
We’re yet to hear the date of when Critical Role’s animated series (Critical Role: The Legend of Vox Machina) is coming to life, but what we do know is that we’ll able to watch it all on Amazon Prime.
For those who don’t know, Critical Role is an immensely popular role-playing podcast where DM Matthew Mercer – known for his many roles in the video game industry, but particularly as Overwatch’s Jesse McCree – and fellow voice actors sit at a table, and play some Dungeons and Dragons.
As of now, the group are on Season 2 and are playing the group called ‘The Mighty Nein’. However, the first season had them playing the heroes of the adventuring group called ‘Vox Machina’. The animated series will start just before the heroes have met up together, and will have Laura Bailey, Taliesin Jaffe, Ashley Johnson, Liam O’Brien, Matthew Mercer, Marisha Ray, Sam Riegel, and Travis Willingham taking up their roles once again
The animated series will have 24 episodes, with each season being split into 12 episodes. The episodes will follow each hero of the Vox Machina, but as of now we’re unsure of the episode length.
Originally there was not going to be a series at all, but a 22-minute short. To help fund the short, Critical Role asked fans to support them through Kickstarter with a goal of $750,000. Critical Role fans have always been a passionate bunch, and completely obliterated that goal in under an hour, soaring past to get to $1 million.
But it didn’t stop there, fans continued to donate and the campaign ended up earning over 11 million dollars in funding. It was an achievement that, as Polygon puts it, ‘the most successful project in Kickstarter history.’ It’s no wonder then that Amazon would want in on the action.
Currently we have no date for when the series will air, but in the meantime you can listen to the tales of Vox Machina on YouTube. Or if you want some more LGBT friendly podcasts, check out the ones we recommended!
