5 LGBT Dungeon and Dragons Podcasts to listen to

There’s a lot to love about Dungeons and Dragons. Since it first began back in the mid 70’s, people have sat around the table have enjoyed themselves. Now in 2019, we’re fortunate enough to have LGBT Dungeon and Dragons groups to listen to, unlike before where being in the closet was the safest thing to do.

Even better, these groups have gone out of their way to promote not only themselves but diversity through the use of podcasts and various other social media. Some of these groups are not all-queer, but have compelling LGBT themed stories or characters that we can’t help but love.

These are but only a few of the LGBT Dungeons and Dragons podcasts that you can listen to right now:

Join The Party

Join the Party is one of my favourite podcasts to listen to, not just because of its queer storyline with two gay princes, but because of the Afterparty they do after their episodes.

The Afterparty is where they break down what happened in the episode, answer any questions, as well as give out helpful tips and tricks. This is perfect for new players and GMs who want to get into the hobby, but aren’t sure how.

The Adventure Zone

The McElroys join together in the world of D&D

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ll probably have heard of The Adventure Zone (otherwise known as TAZ) and the adventures of Taako, Magnus, Merle, and their friends.

Despite some shortcomings at first with their LGBT representation, TAZ eventually turned it around and introduced some amazing characters in Lup, Kravitz, Killian, and Carey — all of whom are queer.

Not Another D&D Podcast

Brian Murphy, Emily Axford, Jake Hurtwitz and Caldwell Tanner of Not Another D&D Podcast

Not Another D&D Podcast is a complete lie covered up with a label on its tin. It is another podcast about Dungeons And Dragon, but one that isn’t as long as Critical Role or TAZ, at the same time being just as enjoyable.

There are a various amount of LGBT characters involved too, one of which that falls in love with every powerful woman they meet. So if you’re looking for a fun, hilarious adventure then you can’t go wrong with this podcast.

Dungeons and Drag Queens/Queens of Adventure

You can raid dungeons while still looking FABULOUS.

You may feel as though you’ve seen every single adventure possible, but you haven’t listened to/seen Matt Baume’s gay-as-all-hell Dungeons & Drag Queens/Queens of Adventure.

In fact, just throw everything you know about Dungeons and Dragons away, because creator Matt Baume will surprise you with something flamboyant and fabulous.

Godsfall

Godsfall is incredibly long, but well worth listening to.

Godsfall is quite different from the other podcasts included in this list, as it is an original fantasy story told through the lens of a 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons game. Think Lord of the Rings, but in D&D style.

It is an epic adventure, which even has its own book and lore, along with two main characters that identify as queer. It’s a long podcast, but one worth listening to.
