Pokemon and Drag Race just got beautifully combined thanks to this queer artist
Pokemon and Drag Race may not be a sentence you’ve been expecting, especially considering most of the talk about Pokemon has been about Pokemon Sword and Shield, but boy, do we have news for you.
Sindre Johnsen, a pixel artist – who we featured during Gayming Live this year in London – recently posted one of the best things we’ve seen all year. A crossover between Pokemon and Drag Race that’ll make you scream in delight.
In an animation that Johnsen posted on Twitter, we see both Ekans and Koffing, two gay Pokemon icons in our opinion, getting critiqued by the judges. In fact, it’s so good we don’t even want to explain it anymore. Just look below and see it for yourself.
Perfect, just perfect.
This isn’t the first time Johnsen has done a crossover like this one, however. On their Instagram, Johnsen is pretty well-known for his Drag Queen Pokemon trainer series and we’ve admired their work even before Gayming Live.
Talking to PinkNews, Johnsen explained the reason for combining Pokemon and Drag Race.
“I wanted to mix my current queer interests with the nostalgia from my childhood, making something both the six-year-old and the 27-year-old me would enjoy.” He later went on to explain why he believed the LGBT community is so obsessed with the franchise that only seems to be getting bigger and better. “Pokemon is fun, campy, doesn’t really take itself too seriously and is pretty non-gendered.”
We’re delighted that Johnsen’s masterpiece has been so positively received, sitting way over 300k views and climbing even higher. It just goes to show that we all need to combine our favourite things now and then to get something we just love!
