Animal Crossing: New Horizons is confirmed but not out until March 2020

Nintendo confirmed the arrival of a new Animal Crossing for Switch during its E3 Nintendo Direct presentation. However, you won’t be able to get your hands on Animal Crossing: New Horizons until March 2020.

In the live Treehouse stage show after the Nintendo Direct presentation, we were able to get our first glimpse of the new Animal Crossing and just how much it has been expanded.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons will have co-op and crafting. Plus you’re no longer just limited to your house, you can now fill the whole world with items and furniture!

The game takes place on a desert island where players arrive as part of Tom Nook’s “deserted island getaway package”. Starting with nothing, you quickly acquire a tent and begin to build your world from there, laying out your items wherever you wish, inside or out! The ability to build your world no longer constrained by walls and ceilings will keep you busy for a very long time!

New Horizons also has a really good crafting system which will be familiar to anyone who has crafted items in other games. You collect materials by cutting down trees, smashing rocks, and other such activities. The materials are taken to Tom Nook’s workbench and you work to complete the recipe.

The co-op system lets you invite up to 8 players over to your island, you can either chill out on the beach with them or put them to work helping you craft!

Other features include earning “Nook Miles”, inspired by airplane mileage programmes. Everything you do on the island from picking weeds to crafting items earns you points. These points can be exchanged for access to items and activities.

Finally, one of the major complaints from the original Animal Crossing has been addressed – you will be able to select your character’s skin tone, something that was absent from previous games.
