Resident Evil Resistance is looking good and so is Sam Jordan
I read numerous negative comments about Resident Evil Resistance when it was announced alongside the Resident Evil 3 remake. Some more complaints filed in as well after beta testing, mostly due to some sequences looking more like a Nintendo Switch release and not a title on the same engine as the Resident Evil 2 remake. I’m not going to make any snap judgments on the game’s quality, because I haven’t played it yet, but I’m certainly intrigued by the 1×4 dynamic and the ability to play as The Mastermind, the antagonist who sets The Survivors in the escape room compromised by zombies. Hell, we’ll all get to experience this game together when it hits Xbox, Playstation and PC on 3 April 2020.
I haven’t found an appealing survivor horror video game in a long time, nor did I find any interest in the loosely canon Resident Evil 7: Biohazard release in January 2017. You know what does catch my eye, though? Studly pro-boxers in peril. I’m talking, of course, about Resident Evil: Resistance’s Samuel Jordan, one of the youths dropped in the flesh-eating madness in Raccoon City. Now, I had to fact check the term “youths,” as described on the official Capcom website, to make sure I wasn’t pining after a high schooler; and luckily Mr. Sam Jordan is in his 20’s. So are the other playable survivors in Resistance – Sam is 21, January is 21, Becca is 22, Valerie is 23 and Tyrone is 25. Martin is 19, but he’s not my type. Moving on!
Sam is described more in-depth online as: “having high health and excels in close-quarters combat. He was a promising boxer until sustaining a career-ending injury during a boxing match. Opted to take part in a new medical trial in the hopes it would heal him and get him back in the ring. He has not been heard from since.”
Same with the other survivors, Sam has special skills that make him uniquely suited to play on your team (our team?) He has “Dash Punch,” which forces him quickly ahead to attack the nearest enemy, and “Fists of Iron,” which puts his boxing skills to use on approaching zombies. When compared to the other members in your makeshift gang, Sam is used as the bruit strength you need to survive and the physical specimen you need to get your blood pumping. By this point, you know I’m always thirsting after someone in video game land, and on 3 April 2020, it will definitely be Mr. Jordan!
I don’t need much to keep my eyes on a body, but I’m hoping that cut-scenes and character development give Sam a little more depth than the token jock. I’m also hoping there’s room for him to take off that damn sports jacket so we can see what he’s working with under his clothes.
Throw in the revamped Carlos Oliveira in the main Resident Evil 3 story-line and this Resident Evil title could be one of the best looking games to hit shelves in a long time. And, yes, I completely mean that two hot men in action is enough to secure my purchase.
