Netflix announces animated Tomb Raider series
During its first-ever DROP 01 event on Wednesday night, Netflix announced a huge slate of upcoming animated titles, including a new Tomb Raider show, called Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft.
During DROP 01, Netflix presented a first-look trailer to introduce fans to the show. In it, we center on Lara breathing heavily as she draws her bow. We then start seeing flashes of her adventures: touching a wall with an ancient mural, rising to stand in front of roiling flames, seeing a glowing flower bloom over a tomb, tenderly caressing a photo of her with her friends. The flashbacks end, and Lara looses her arrow. It slams into a map nailed to a tree, initiating the title sequence for the show.
Beyond the new Tomb Raider show, Netflix announced or provided updates on a slate of other animated shows. These included Castlevania: Nocturne (which starts streaming today), Devil May Cry, Sonic Prime, Captain Laserhawk, Blue Eye Samurai, PLUTO, Masters of the Universe: Revolution, and Scott Pilgrim: Takes Off.
“The future of Netflix animation – specifically for our gamers, anime, and action fanatics – is looking BRIGHT. More EPIC DROPS still to come,” Netflix wrote on Twitter. “THANK U to all of our partners who made this event possible! THANK U for all of these epic characters that continue to bring love, light, and joy into our lives.”
Currently, Netflix hasn’t announced a release date for Tomb Raider: The Legend of Lara Croft yet, so fans will have to stay tuned for updates from the streaming platform.
