Final Fantasy VII Rebirth release date confirmed for February 2024
Final Fantasy VII Remake took the world by storm when it was first released back in 2020. Now Final Fantasy VII Rebirth promises to do the same, with it’s release date being revealed for February 2024.
Shown during PlayStation’s State of Play September broadcast, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will continue the story of Remake on the PS5 next year.
Players will reunite with well-loved characters Cloud, Aerith, Barret, and Tifa, as well as join forces with new playable companions such as Red XIII, a very good beast with a flaming tail, Yuffie, a ninja operative from Wutai, and even a feline-shaped robot called Cait Sith. While not officially confirmed as a playable companion, the trailer revealed the showcase also teased Vincent Valentine, a fan-favourite who was an optional protagonist back in the original FF7, and the main protagonist in its spin-off, Dirge of Cerberus.
With Cloud’s party ready for action, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will have players following them as they travel through a sci-fi and fantasy-inspired world in their quest to hunt down the one-winged angel, Sephiroth.
Naoki Hamaguchi, Director of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, explained that this new title will have a much “bigger” storyline and will be, overall, more ambitious. They further explained that the title will “embrace the concept of “free exploration,” with compelling stories, fun mini-games, powerful monsters and so much more to find throughout the world map” with nearly 100 hours of adventure for players to get stuck into.
As for how far the game will go, as in, will we be seeing that scene with Aerith in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth? It’s entirely possible. Speaking to PlayStation Blog after the trailer release, creative director Tetsuya Nomura confirmed the game will touch on The Forgotten Capital. Fans of the original game will certainly remember that particular location.
What will be revealed during that monumental location, however, remains to be seen. As Remake made clear when it launched this iteration of Final Fantasy VII will be significantly different. How different, however, remains to be seen.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth confirms it will soar onto the PS5 on February 29, 2024.
