Tanya and Mileena may be together in Mortal Kombat 1
The topic of whether Mileena and Tanya were “together together” has been well-discussed over the years, and now it finally looks as though Mortal Kombat 1 will be putting that topic to bed by answering the question themselves.
Mileena’s bisexuality, nor her relationship with Tanya, hasn’t exactly been hidden. When she was re-introduced in Mortal Kombat 11 as DLC, she flirted with more than a few different characters – Jacqui Briggs, for one. Even so, what stood out for fans was that this time she had more than one reason for showing up… This time she was looking for vengeance on not just D’vorah, but revenge for the demise of her lost love, Tanya, at the hands of a botched plan from Rain. There’s even an Hourglass ending in Mortal Kombat 11 where Mileena uses the Hourglass to save Tanya from death and start a happy, human-munching family together with them and their baby. It’s as sweet an ending as a cannibalistic family can get.
Even so, some wondered if their relationship would continue in future iterations. And, as is turns out, the answer is yes.
Last weekend a new trailer revealed that Li Mei, Tanya, and Baraka would be returning as Kombatants in Mortal Kombat 1, bringing a new side to a story that has long since been tread. Considering Mileena has already been confirmed as a fighter also, fans of the two had already started to speculate what this could mean for the two.
That speculation intensified at the reveal of Tanya’s bio, leaked via Twitter and YouTube. It reads:
“Chosen as an infant from Outworld’s first-born daughters, Tanya was raised by the Umgadi’s priestesses. She’s never known her birth family.
As she grew older and saw other initiates wash out, Tanya feared that she would share their fate. But that fear spurred success; after many attempts, Tanya passed her trials and became a full Umgadi.
Over time, Tanya became one of the order’s most trusted members. She was the obvious choice when it needed to choose a new leader for the royal family’s personal guard.
As an Umgadi, Tanya is sworn to piety and chastity. That is why her bond with Princess Mileena, were it known, would cause a scandal. By following her heart, Tanya risks not only her position, but also her life.”
Not only does Tanya and Mileena’s relationship seem all but confirmed, but it looks as though it comes with its own trials and tribulations.
Will the Tanya and Mileena relationship truly be doomed, or will something beautiful (if a little bloody) flourish? We guess we’ll find out when Mortal Kombat 1 releases for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC on September 14, 2023.
