Overwatch 2 is charging $15 for permanent access to story missions
It was announced yesterday that Overwatch 2 will charge players money for permanent access to their upcoming story missions.
As revealed via Xbox Wire and the Xbox Showcase, Overwatch 2: Invasion will launch on August 10. The mission follows a variety of different Overwatch heroes as they try to uncover the mystery of why Null Sector – the big bad – is going around and kidnapping Omnics. The inclusion of story missions, as well as co-op, and so much more, has led to the new content being described as “Overwatch 2’s biggest update ever.”
However, in a new blog post published by Activision Blizzard, the upcoming story missions seem to come at a cost. With the Overwatch 2: Invasion Bundle, players must pay $15 to get 1,000 Overwatch Coins ($10 USD value), a new Sojourn Legendary skin with a value of $19, permanent access to Sojourn as a playable hero for new players, and permanent access to the Overwatch 2: Invasion story missions. If players upgrade to the Ultimate Invasion bundle for $40, they will get the above, as well as an additional 1,000 Overwatch Coins, a legendary skin for Cassidy and Kiriko, and 20 Battle Pass skips.
This news comes only a few weeks after Activision Blizzard announced the cancellation of the PvE Hero Mode, which has no doubt added fuel to the fire for fans who are upset that the new PvE story missions come with a price tag. As IGN has stated, it has not been clarified by the publisher or developer whether these story missions will be temporarily free, or whether the $15 price tag will be relevant for all story missions in the future.
