Can you be gay in Idol Manager?
This post has been updated to reflect gameplay mechanics we originally missed.
In Idol Manager (which recently launched a port on Nintendo Switch) the player character takes on the titular role of manager of an idol agency in Japan. It’s up to you to keep your small, but very expensive, business afloat, while also keeping your investors and idols happy with you. There is also dating in this game, but can you be gay?
Can you be gay in Idol Manager?
You can be gay in Idol Manger. The player can choose either a male or female character to play as. You can date idols if they’re amenable, but all of them are women so it will only be queer if your character is a woman. There are other characters in the game aside from idols, like your rival manager or journalists you meet that you can romance as the same gender. Your idols also can (and often will) date each other.
Even if your character in Idol Manager isn’t gay, your agency can become a hotbed of women-loving-women drama if you’re not careful. While it can be sweet to imagine the girls in your agency finding romance together, it does have mechanical repercussions if things go south. Your idols will take a penalty to their mental stamina if they break up with each other, which makes sense, since they do still have to see each other all the time for group work.
You can prevent your idols from dating by changing your agency’s policy surrounding dating. You can forbid them from dating completely, though of course, you can’t always control what the girls do behind your back. They do spend a lot of time together.
