Can you be gay in Ooblets?
Glumberland’s Ooblets is a cute and colorful combination of creature collection and farming sim. The game allows you to build up your own farmstead, make friends with townsfolk, meet funky little critters that love to dance, and more. But a big question that often comes up with these kinds of games is whether or not there are romance options available. Ooblets has tons of NPCs, so it’s not an unreasonable inquiry. Luckily, after several hours in Badgetown, we’ve got an answer for you.
Can you be gay in Ooblets?
The short answer is no, you can’t. But it’s not because gay/queer romances are excluded or anything, the game just doesn’t feature romance options at all. While Ooblets puts a heavy focus on building up friendships with the various denizens of Badgetown, you’re never able to take those relationships to a romantic level. Unlike games like Stardew Valley, this one simply isn’t interested in allowing players to date or start romances. They’re far too busy farming, baking, and dancing for any of that nonsense.
Some of the NPCs seem to have their own relationships, however. Though there’s nothing confirmed in the text, Rugnolia and Arah spend a LOT of time together. Arah frequently hangs out in Rugnolia’s lab, it’s part of her daily routine…and they were both girls!
But seriously, if you’re looking for romance, Ooblets isn’t going to be the game for you. Luckily, there are plenty of other indie games on the horizon that should scratch that itch for you, like Squiddershins’ Kaichu, Veritable Joy’s ValiDate, and Perfect Garbage’s Love Shore.
