Blizzard cancels Nintendo Switch Overwatch launch event
It’s about under an hour before the release of the Nintendo Switch Overwatch in the UK, and as you may expect, there’s more than a few people feeling more than a little uncomfortable at the prospect of knowing Blizzard’s first-person hero shooter is going to be once again pushed into the limelight.
Even with Blizzard’s apology, the community at large is not so forgiving of the laissez-faire attitude taken by the company and there are plans to be a protest at BlizzCon this year. Whether that’ll be successful or not remains to be seen.
Nonetheless, it looks as though Blizzard are feeling the heat more than they are letting on. As VG24/7 have reported, Blizzard has cancelled the launch party that was planned for today, though they have yet to state an official reason for doing so.

The party was officially announced earlier this month, before Blizzard decided to shoot themselves in the foot. So, as you can expect, there were high hopes that this party would set off Overwatch on the Nintendo Switch with an almighty bang.
Considering recent events, we’re not at all surprised that those plans have fallen through.
Of course Blizzard didn’t give a reason for the cancellation, but we’d by lying if we said we had no idea why the party wasn’t going ahead. After all, the crisis that Blizzard is going through now is due to the silencing of Hearthstone pro, Blitzchung.
After Blitzchung’s comments about the ‘liberation of Hong Kong’, Blizzard originally retaliated by banning him from competing for up to 12 months, as well as taking away his prize money. Since then, Blizzard has reinstated Blitzchung’s prize money and shortened his ban. However, it would seem the damage is already done.
Whether it’ll affect Overwatch’s sales on the Switch remains to be seen.
