Squid Game.io is an online version of the game’s Red Light Green Light
Squid Game took the world by storm when it arrived on Netflix in September, and now an io version of the game (aptly titled Squid Game.io) is available to play for fans out there with a desperate hankering to try and win a game of Red Light, Green Light.
Squid Game.io is, to put it simply, a multiplayer, online game that anyone can play as long as they’ve got an internet browser and a lot of patience for adverts. Think of it like a Flash game, games that took up most of our time back when the internet was a little more new, only these io games don’t ask you to download anything to access it.
This isn’t the first time that Squid Game in particular has received an online version of one of the series many fascinating games – Roblox versions of the game has led to many angry parents, after all – but it is the first io version of the game. And considering the high score of many of the players giving the game a go, the free alternative is proving to be popular.
But what is an io? For the most part, io’s can be described as a free-to-play, browser game that has very few mechanics, is largely minimalist (and that includes graphics, which can appear cartoonish), and often has a multiplayer element. As of now, Squid Game.io conveys that players will have access to the different games that are seen in the show, however, we’ve currently been unable to play any game but Red Light, Green Light. It does mean the game is a little short, but something that has been used as an incentive for players is the use of a ‘Shop’ in the main menu, which offers different cosmetics for players. To be honest, it’s pretty barebones. With that in mind, Squid Game.io shouldn’t be worth the hype, but its obvious popularity is hard to ignore.
Squid Game itself is still a hot topic, even more so now that Season 2, following protagonist Gi-hun’s adventures once more – is actively being worked on.
