Crusader Kings 3 Gives You the Option to be Bisexual and So Much More

Crusader Kings may be one of the last places you’d expect to find LGBT+ representation, especially if you aren’t up to date on the fact that us gays have been around since the very start and only wiped away to fit heteronormative standards, but today that changes. Because Crusader Kings 3 will let you be bisexual, asexual, and so much more.

Thanks to PC Gamer, we now know that Paradox’s recent dev diary talked about diversity within Crusader Kings 3. Considering that you really can play almost any nation in previous games, this may come as no surprise. However, for Crusaders King 3, Paradox is focusing on expanding by including a more in-depth system that gives women and those who identify as non-heterosexual the equality they deserve. For those who played past Crusader Kings games, you’ll know that while women weren’t necessarily neglected, they were hardly given the same consideration as men.

In their dev diary post, Paradox explains that the inclusion of sexuality adds “spice” to character behaviour and motivations, both in-game and in real life. “Sexuality is no longer defined by a trait, but has its own system, which makes it easier to handle for us and more visible in the interface for you.” The post reads. “It also means that we do not frame heterosexuality as the default in CK3, which was also important for us.”

One of the cool things about this addition is that Paradox also confirmed bisexuality and asexuality would be included, and that from the age of 10, characters will be able to explore their sexuality. Though once set, that will not change. Children learning about their own sexuality is remarkably common, yet is often shunned due to seemingly ‘sexual’ nature, when that is far from the case, so we’re pleasantly surprised Paradox is including this.

Sexual diversity isn’t just for male characters either, women will also be able to experience love with those of the same-sex and will even be able to rule depending on the rule sets. Considering that same-sex relationships were rife throughout history, but often covered up through marriages of convenience and whatnot, we’re stoked that Crusader Kings 3 really will be historically accurate by letting you be bisexual, asexual, and so much more.

We’re certain some people will complain either way, but if that’s the case, then maybe they should crack open a history book before they embarrass themselves in the process.
