Cozy indie hit Flick Solitaire pulled from Steam in Russia following anti-LGBTQ+ censorship demands

Flick Games has confirmed that their art-driven card game, Flick Solitaire, has been removed from the Steam store in Russia. The removal comes immediately following formal notices from Roskomnadzor, Russia’s media censorship body, specifically targeting the game’s LGBTQ+ Pride-themed content.

While Flick Solitaire has been a staple on mobile since 2020, the title only entered Early Access on Steam globally on 1 October 2025.

Less than a month later, on 28 October, Roskomnadzor issued formal notices to Flick Games’ partners and web hosts. The notices explicitly objected to the inclusion of Pride-themed decks within the game, demanding their removal within the region.

The situation highlights a stark contrast in how major platforms handle censorship and the protection of queer content:

Apple & Google: Despite receiving copies of the notices, both mobile giants chose not to remove Flick Solitaire from their storefronts in Russia. The game remains live and playable on iOS and Android in the region.

Steam: According to Flick Games, Steam removed the title from the Russian store instantly on the same day the notices were issued, citing local distribution requirements.

Flick Solitaire is known for its “art-first” approach, commissioning indie creators worldwide to design collectible decks. This model allows artists to retain their IP and receive payment while promoting diverse visual styles, including those celebrating the LGBTQ+ community.

Players come to Flick to collect decks, discover artists, and find calm, and for many, that includes finally seeing themselves represented in games. We’ll continue to commission diverse artists to create beautiful, meaningful card art. If representation can be switched off region by region, the game industry gets smaller for everyone – that’s incredibly sad.

Flick Games has expressed hope that platforms will move toward handling regional demands with greater transparency, particularly when those demands threaten the visibility of marginalized communities and the livelihoods of indie teams.

Despite the ban on PC in the region, the game remains available globally elsewhere:

  • iOS App Store: Worldwide (including Russia)
  • Google Play: Worldwide (including Russia)
  • Steam (PC/Mac): Worldwide (excluding Russia)
