Apex Legends is crossing over with Final Fantasy VII REBIRTH

On January 9, two of the biggest names in gaming will come together for the Apex Legends & Final Fantasy VII REBIRTH event. The event includes a limited-time mode takeover, Final Fantasy VII REBIRTH-inspired weapons and in-game items, and new skins and other cosmetics inspired by the iconic RPG.

For three weeks, Apex’s unranked battle royale mode will be replaced by the Final Fantasy VII Takeover. In this mode, players will be able to wield Cloud’s Buster Sword R2R5, which allows them to dash, block bullets, use Limit Breaks, and more. This mode is also introducing Materia Hop-Ups into the game, which provide various boosts, like area-of-effect lightning, HP absorption, and even a SOLDIER-fied Nessie who will fight alongside you.

Players who want to look the part while running around in the Final Fantasy VII REBIRTH event will also be able to unlock related skins for several Legends, as part of a total 36 event cosmetic items. Wattson is getting a moogle-inspired skin, while Crypto, Wraith, and others are getting outfits based on iconic characters from FF VII, like Cloud, Aerith, Tifa, and Vincent Valentine. Who all will end up decked out in Nomura-inspired outfits remains to be seen, but the event trailer heavily features Horizon, so she’s probably a safe bet for a skin as well.

This should be a more light-hearted Apex event, giving fans a break from the intrigue and drama of the recently concluded Kill Code mini series.

Players will be able to get in on the action starting on January 9.
