Director Hideki Kamiya is leaving PlatinumGames after 17 years

On Monday, PlatinumGames announced via Twitter that its director of 17 years, Hideki Kamiya, will be leaving the studio on October 12.

“We regret to announce that Hideki Kamiya will be leaving PlatinumGames on October 12, 2023,” Platinum wrote in the post. “We are truly grateful for his creative ideas, leadership, and contribution to the growth of PlatinumGames from our start-up to this very day. We believe that he will continue to succeed in his future endeavors as a game creator. We are looking forward to seeing the game industry grow into a better place with him in it. We wish him all the best for the future! – PlatinumGames Inc.”

Kamiya also put out his own two-part statement on Twitter.

“As announced on the official PlatinumGames X account, I will be leaving PlatinumGames on October 12, 2023,” Kamiya wrote. “This came after a lot of consideration based on my own beliefs and was by no means an easy decision to make. However, I feel this outcome is for the best. I will continue to create in my Hideki Kamiya way. I hope you’ll keep your eyes peeled.”

Kamiya has been part of several iconic PlatinumGames projects, including Okami, Devil May Cry, and, of course, Bayonetta. His most recent projects that have actually released are Bayonetta 3 and Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon. He was also listed on Platinum’s “Project G.G.,” which was announced in 2020 but hasn’t gotten any significant updates since.

Kamiya has not yet announced what his next venture will be, so fans of his creative stylings will just have to wait and see what he’s up to.
