Narrative game Frank and Drake launches today

On Thursday, developer Appnormals and publisher Chorus Worldwide announced that their rotoscoped narrative game Frank and Drake is now available to play on PC via Steam, Nintendo Switch (but only in the Americas currently), PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series X/S, and Xbox One.

Frank and Drake is set in a fictional city based on Baltimore, Maryland called Oriole City and follows the titular pair as they try to solve a conspiracy. Frank is an amnesiac who currently works as the superintendent of a run-down apartment complex. His roommate Drake, meanwhile, is nocturnal due to his sunlight allergy and works as a bartender at night. He’s also recently started experiencing visions of the future. Despite their opposite schedules, the two have to work together to solve the conspiracy they become embroiled in by sharing sticky notes on their shared fridge.

To get to the bottom of this mystery, you will see hallucinogenic visions, lost memories, and have to solve puzzles. Frank takes the day shift of sleuthing, while Drake handles the investigation at night. The story branches, leading to multiple different endings that will help you ultimately piece together the truth of what’s going on. Both character’s routes are animated using rotoscoping, with more than 5,000 frames of animation traced over real-world filmed references.

“Oriole City and its denizens have so much character to offer,” said Shintaro Kanaoya, founder and CEO of Chorus Worldwide in a press release. “The first impression of Frank and Drake’s rotoscoped world is just the beginning. We can’t wait for you all to see Frank and Drake’s merging of realities — which path will you take first?”

The game currently supports English, Japanese, French, German, Spanish, and Portuguese language text. Frank and Drake is available now on PC via Steam, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4/5, and Nintendo Switch in the Americas for $24.99 / €22.99 / £19.99. Switch versions for Europe and Australia will release soon, though no official release date has been announced yet.
