Can you be gay in Cassette Beasts?
In Cassette Beasts from Bytten Studios, players find themselves washed up on a strange island that seems to be a waypoint for people from across worlds and dimensions who have somehow been transported from their homes. Your goal is to find a way off the island, but to do that, you’ll have to track down several powerful beings called Archangels.
To stand a chance against these powerful creatures, you have to record the island’s monsters on cassette tapes so that you can transform into them and use their powers in combat.
Can you be gay in Cassette Beasts?
You can be gay in Cassette Beasts! Though not a super deep mechanical system, players can romance any of the companion (a.k.a. partner) in the game. To do this you do have to complete your intended’s personal side quest. When you first meet each partner, they will give you a bit of insight into their background and what they’re currently motivated by. As you hang out and chat with them more, they will eventually give you the opportunity to start their personal quest.
Romancing partners is beneficial because it’s a direct way to increase your hearts with that character. Each heart increase in your relationship makes the fusion between the two of you more powerful, which is especially handy in the later parts of the game. Beyond that, you also get the opportunity to get closer to a character you like and see a cute little date scene that’s unique to each partner. Players should note, though, that you can only romance one character, there isn’t a polyamorous option in Cassette Beasts.
Beyond being able to date NPCs, players can also customize their own avatar to fit their gender expression/identity. This includes choosing your own name, pronouns (from options of she/her, he/him, and they/them), hairstyle, and outfit. None of these options are locked based on your pronouns, allowing players to make whatever kind of avatar they’d like to.
