Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life Romance Guide

Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life brings players back to the Forgotten Valley, a small, peaceful town full of a cast of quirky but memorable characters who you can get to know more of as friends, and even romance. If that’s more your thing.

A Wonderful Life has been remade for a new generation, freshening up familiar faces and old haunts in a new and exciting way. This doesn’t just mean a new look for your favourite characters and locations, but a unique and creative way for you to express yourself.

In the original, players were only able to romance characters of the opposite sex and identify as a man or a woman. In this remake, things are a little different, and returning and new players will no doubt have questions. That’s where our A Wonderful Life romance guide comes in.

Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life Romance
Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life Romance Guide — Are there same-sex relationships?

Back during the original release, the way the LGBTQ+ community was viewed was pretty different from how it is now. As such, there were no same-sex marriage or even romance involved in A Wonderful Life. The remake, however, changes that.

As confirmed via the official Story of Seasons website, all eligible marriage candidates will be available to the player regardless of whether they play as male, female, or non-binary. “You can truly be who you want to be,” we couldn’t have put it better ourselves!

It should be noted, however, that picking how you identify happens at the start of the game and cannot be changed. For example, if you decide to go by they/them pronouns, then you’re unable to change to she/her or he/him later on. Your actual look, e.g hairstyle, eye colour, and clothing can be changed via the mirror in your house.

A Wonderful Life Romance options

As to be expected in a farming / life sim game, players have a variety of different options when it comes to eligible bachelors/bachelorettes. Some may have had a makeover, or their names changed completely from the old characters you may have known before, but rest assured, it’s still the same character you all know and love! The only new characters joining the farming bachelor pad are Lumina and Gordy.

A Wonderful Life Romance
Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life Romance Guide — How do you get married in A Wonderful Life?

For new fans looking to dive into A Wonderful Life, the way this game handles marriage, romance and children, in general, may feel somewhat strange. For one thing, you not only need to get married, but if you don’t then you’ll be hit with an automatic game-over. That’s right. No kid, no marriage? Game over.

With that in mind, you’ll want to find your one true love in the first year of the game. The fastest way to do that is through talking to them each and every day. That way your heart meter will start to fill up, and your friendship bar will move from the middle to right at the top. You’ll know you’re on good terms with the people of Forgotten Valley when their friendship bar is at the top, and there’s a happy, red face.

Once you’ve got your hearts and friendship bar full, you’ll be able to propose to your romantic interest. To do this, you’ll need a blue feather. If you haven’t got it yet, then don’t fret; missing it is impossible. The spirits of the forest will give you the blue feather on the first day of Summer.

When you propose, you’ll be shown a small cutscene and you will officially be considered engaged. However, you won’t be officially considered married until the end of Winter, aka, the end of the first year in Forgotten Valley. After a time skip, you will be considered married. It isn’t the most romantic of marriages, we’ve gotta admit, but it gets the job done!

A Wonderful Life divorce
Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life Romance Guide — How do you get divorced in A Wonderful Life?

Sometimes the person you thought was bae, ends up being just fam and you’ll want to get a divorce to find your one true love instead. That isn’t the case in A Wonderful Life, where the romance option you chose during the first year really needs to be the one you’re willing to settle down with for the rest of the game.

That said, you can (sorta) get divorced – but doing so hits you with an immediate Game Over, and you need to be a real jerk in order for you to get it. If that doesn’t bother you and you just want to see the scene for yourself, then read on.

It is possible to get a divorce in any year outside of the first by doing two things: ignoring your spouse and child altogether, and not doing anything on the farm. This means not planting crops, nor selling them. Just nothing. Absolutely nothing. As you can see, it makes getting a divorce seem near impossible, and always at the cost of uprooting your livelihood in the process.

Once you’ve done those two things, there will be a cutscene during the end of the year where your spouse asks whether you’re even interested in farm life. Keep saying no, then they’ll basically give you a big F U and walk out. Then you’ll leave the farm and life as you know it will never be the same again… Because you’ll need to start over.

A Wonderful Life Romance
Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life Romance Guide — How do you get a baby in A Wonderful Life?

Now that you’ve got marriage and romance down pat in Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life, the next stage is having a baby with your significant other. But how and when does becoming a parent open up to you, and is there a way you can avoid this?

As we’ve mentioned in our review of the game, it is impossible for you to play this game without getting married and having a child. During the end of the first year, your spouse will move in with you, and together, you’ll talk about marriage and the potential of having a child. You’ll be given three options: if you had a child, would you prefer a boy, a girl, or the third option of not caring either way. We chose the third option and ended up with a girl, but we assume you can end up with a boy too, if you pick the third option.

After a brief cutscene and time skip, you’ll be in Year 2 of the game with a new-and-improved house and your child, who you can name.
