Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life will be LGBTQ+ friendly
During the Nintendo Direct on Tuesday, the company announced that it is bringing the PlayStation 2/GameCube title Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life to the Nintendo Switch as a remake sometime next year.
In this game – known as Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life in Japan – players try to build a farm on a plot of land in a place called The Forgotten Valley where their father had dreamed of doing so. Here, you’ll build a new life all about planting crops, raising animals, and meeting new people.
Like many farming/slice-of-life sims, the Story of Seasons games are all about interacting with others and building relationships. Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life is particularly exciting in this department, because it will allow players to determine their own gender, including nonbinary, and who they want to romance.
In a list of features Xseed Games provided about the game, there’s confirmation that players will be able to play the game “their way.”
“With the option to play as a male, female, or non-binary protagonist, as well as all eligible marriage candidates available for romance regardless of that choice, you can truly be who you want to be.”
This is exciting for many LGBTQ+ fans. Past Story of Seasons games like Pioneers of Olive Town allowed players limited same-sex relationships, but this is the biggest swing the series has taken in terms of giving players control over their characters’ gender and sexuality within the game. It will be interesting to see what the game offers in terms of pronoun customization and clothing options when it releases as well.
