Jinkx Monsoon, the Queen of Queens and two-times winner of RuPaul’s Drag Race, is set to appear in the newest season of Doctor Who.
With Jinkx Monsoon’s arrival, it has become evident that this new era of Doctor Who is here to slay. Monsoon has previously hit it big on Broadway through their portrayal of Matron ‘Mama’ Morton in Broadway’s longest-running show, ‘Chicago.’ Her appearance as the iconic character broke records, and was a monumental moment for the LGBTQ+ community.
And now Jinkx Monsoon is about to break another record as the very first drag queen to appear on Doctor Who.
“In a galaxy of comets and supernovas, here comes the biggest star of all. Jinkx Monsoon is on a collision course with the TARDIS, and Doctor Who will never be the same again!” Showrunner Russell T Davies stated about the casting.
“I’m honoured, thrilled, and utterly excited to join Doctor Who!” Monsoon said. “Russell T Davies is a visionary and a brilliant writer— I can’t wait to get into the weeds with him and the crew! I hope there’s room in the TARDIS for my luggage.”
Whether Monsoon will be part of the main cast or even a companion has not been confirmed. Either way, Monsoon is bringing something new to the show, and we can’t wait to see how it will all play out when Doctor Who returns in November this year.
