Fiction Factory Games announces Penny Larceny: Gig Economy Supervillain

On March 15, Fiction Factory Games — the developers of near-future cyberpunk visual novels Arcade Spirits and Arcade Spirits: The New Challengersannounced their next project, Penny Larceny: Gig Economy Supervillain. The game will release sometime later in 2023, though it doesn’t have a set release date quite yet.

In Penny Larceny: Gig Economy Supervillain, players take on the role of a voice inside the head of a master thief who must navigate the criminal underworld through a new app called Crimr. The app is meant to make it easier for villains to contract minions for their nefarious deeds. As Penny’s guiding voice, you’ll help her decide which path to take, whether that’s taking over the world or saving it.

As its title indicates, the game is also a satirical take on the gig economy and the way it influences modern life. There are branching routes and choices that will lead you to different endings, so the game will facilitate multiple playthroughs. There are also all kinds of wacky characters that Penny will encounter along the way, from a computer programmed to hate, to mad scientists, to a cybernetically enhanced cat companion.

“The goal was to create a game which is welcoming to everyone,” said Stefan Gagne of Fiction Factory Games. “In ‘Penny Larceny,’ players can choose to romance or befriend characters of any gender and orientation. No matter how you like to play, we’re there to support it.”

“Accessibility was also a key consideration for us,” added Stefan. “We’ve made sure that the game is easy to pick up and play, with a wide range of disability support options. This is a story for everyone to enjoy!”
