Baldur’s Gate 3 adds non-binary option

Baldur’s Gate 3 only seems to be getting bigger and better with time, and now it’s even more inclusive before thanks to Larian Studios adding a non-binary option into character customization.

As revealed via Larian’s ever-popular Panel from Hell and later clarified in the game’s Patch 9 notes, Larian Studios have taken a step forward in making their game suitable for everyone.

“We’ve added the option to choose your character’s identity and included non-binary support.” Baldur’s Gate 3 community update post revealed. With this new update, players are now able to pick they/them pronouns for their legendary heroes. Currently this option is only available in English, but other languages will follow.

To access this new option players must first update the Baldur’s Gate 3 application to patch 9, then start a new game to create a new character. You’ll then be able to choose how you identify in the Appearance tab, making it possible for your character to be addressed with the correct pronouns, regardless of your appearance or body type.

As expected, there has been some pushback (just check out the amount of deleted comments in this Reddit thread), but overall the new addition to how players can interact and weave themselves into the world of Baldur’s Gate 3’s Faerûn has been well-received.

For those looking to find out more about what Patch 9 brought to Baldur’s Gate 3 outside of adding a non-binary option, you can check out the full patch notes here.
