Pokémon Scarlet and Violet to remove gender locks on character customization
During the latest gameplay reveal for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Nintendo showed off the multiple storylines players will get to experience in the new installments of this classic series. An exciting feature that was also highlighted during the presentation is the fact that seemingly most, if not all, of the character customization options in the game will no longer be locked based on which gender you chose for your character.
In previous Pokémon titles, different clothing items and hair styles have been locked behind which binary gender the player chose for their character. Now, it looks like players will have a lot more customization options available to them. The gameplay reveal showed off dozens of different hairstyles, hair colors, eye colors, and eyelash styles, and it seems that this non-gendered trend will bleed into clothing options as well.
This seems to be building on what other recent Pokémon titles have done in terms of fashion. This year’s Pokémon Legends Arceus had tons of options when it came to dressing up the player character, though the hairstyles were still dependent on whether you were a boy or a girl. There were also gendered versions of each outfit, so a boy and girl version of the same outfit. Currently, it looks as though this will not be the case for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Instead, it seems like players will simply be presented with a variety of clothing and other fashion options and will be able to select whatever they like from them. This looks to include hairstyles, hair colors, and eyelashes as well.
Fans of the franchise will be able to check out all four storylines and all of the fashion items available in these games when Pokemon Scarlet and Violet come out on November 18.
