Twitch Partners are no longer exclusive
On Tuesday, Twitch sent out emails to its partnered streamers announcing that they will no longer be under exclusivity clauses as part of their partnership agreement. Now, Twitch Partners will be able to stream on any platform they want to, with some caveats.
“Starting today, you are now allowed to create live content on other platforms,” Twitch wrote in the email sent to Partners. “This means you have more flexibility to explore how to use different, off-platform features to further build your community and interact with streamers off Twitch.”
According to the email from Twitch, the streaming platform has made this decision in light of the streaming space having changed so much since the Partner Program was first created. The giant seems to have realized it needs to change in turn.
“We still believe that Twitch is the best place for creators to build and engage with their community.” the email said. “We also recognize that the digital landscape has changed since we first introduced the Partner Program and that many of you engage with your communities in many different places. So, we are updating our policy. We will no longer be enforcing this portion of your agreement and will be updating terms early next year.”
That said, this isn’t complete carte blanche for streamers to make content wherever they want. Twitch has outlined some stipulations for the Partners’ new freedom. Partners will not be allowed to stream simultaneously on other web-based platforms like Facebook or YouTube, but can do so on short-form mobile platforms like Tik Tok or Instagram Live.
The Twitch team will be taking questions about these new policy changes during the next Patch Notes episode on August 25 at 12 p.m. PT. It will be an extended episode to give the community an opportunity to put their questions out there and get answers. The VOD of this stream will be available later this week for those who can’t watch live.
