They/Them reveals sinister enemy in official trailer

They/Them just dropped its official trailer, giving us a brief glimpse at the horrors that await in this new summer camp slasher from Blumhouse – releasing on August 5.

With less than 2 weeks to go before the sinister conversion camp horror film debuts on Peacock, They/Them (pronounced They Slash Them) from screenwriter and director John Logan has revealed a new trailer that looks more at the sinister conversion therapy camp that will make up the setting for this LGBTQ+ horror film.

The film has a memorable cast, with genre mainstay Kevin Bacon (Tremors, Hollow Man) as Owen Whistler, as well as his therapist wife Cora, played by Carrie Preston (True Blood). The two, alongside other workers at the camp, run a conversion therapy camp together. However, when the new crop of teens arrive for “treatment”, the campers and the staff begin to disappear one by one.

The They/Them official trailer reveals that this feature debut from Logan will combine the elements of slasher horror that we all know and love (think Friday the 13th) with a real-life issue of conversion therapy that is still happening today, as displayed in films like But I’m A Cheerleader and and Boy Erased.

The film has been described by Logan as “a queer empowerment story set at a gay conversion camp” and his hope is that “when people walk away from the movie, I hope they’re going to remember the incredible love that these kids have for each other and how that love needs to be protected and celebrated.”
