ROLLER DRAMA is a roller derby management sim/visual novel mash-up coming in 2023
On Thursday, the developers behind Football Drama Open Lab Games announced their next project: a roller derby management sim and visual novel hybrid called ROLLER DRAMA. The game is slated to release on PC, Nintendo Switch, iOS, and Android in early 2023, and will later come to PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The character art for this game was hand-drawn by award winning artist Vic Macioci.
“After our narrative-driven debut Football Drama, we wanted to take everything we’d learned and push the boat out even further,” said Pietro Polsinelli, lead designer at Open Lab Games. “From the hand drawn visuals to the bold genre mashup, Roller Drama is hella ambitious and weird. We aim to give players a sporting triumph they wouldn’t find anywhere else!”
In ROLLER DRAMA, players will have to manage the members of their roller derby squad on and off the rink. During matches, you’ll use real-time controls and strategy to maneuver your team to victory. Over time, you’ll be able to upgrade your team’s skills to reflect their growth as they gain more game experience.
Meanwhile, in your downtime outside the rink you’ll have to manage the big personalities of the five players on your roster. Each member is very different, so it’s up to you as their coach to figure out how to best help them get along. On top of competing, your players are trying to navigate friendships, heartbreak, and the overall collapse of late capitalist society. The fate of the team will be impacted by the choices you make and the outcomes of each roller derby match you compete in.
Fans can expect ROLLER DRAMA to be out on iOS, Android, PC, and Nintendo Switch some time in early 2023. It will come to PlayStation and Xbox consoles from both last and current gen later on, though no concrete release dates have been specified for either.
