Do Revenge is a dark-comedy gay revenge film featuring Stranger Things Maya Hawke

If there’s one thing the LGBTQ+ community love, it’s the concept of gay revenge. It looks like we’ll be receiving that in spades too, with Netflix’s newest dark-comedy film Do Revenge, featuring Stranger Things’ Maya Hawke and Riverdale’s Camila Mendes set to join forces against those who’ve wrong them.

In Do Revenge, Maya Hawke plays Eleanor, a girl seeking revenge after another girl at school spreads a rumour about her trying to kiss her – outing her to the entire school. As for Camila Mendes, she plays the popular Drea, a girl who turns to vengeance after her ex-boyfriend Max – played by Euphoria’s Austin Abrams – leaks her sex tape.

The summary of the film (which describes Do Revenge as a “subverted Hitchcock-ian dark comedy”) explains that after a meet-cute between the two, they team up in order to get revenge on their bullies. And as far as we can tell from the images Netflix has already released about the film, it looks like their relationship is going to be pretty fruity. This is definitely going to be a film for the sapphics.

Both Mendes and Hawke are joined by a star-studded cast, such as Game of Thrones’ Sophie Turner, as well as Eliza Bennett.

The director and co-writer of Do Revenge is none other than Thor: Love and Thunder’s Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, which unfortunately came under fire earlier in the month due to the hype of the movie being ‘super gay’ when it was anything but. However, considering how Disney (which owns Marvel) has come under fire in the past for stripping away a lot of queerness within its films and shows, this doesn’t come as too much of a surprise.

Let’s hope this film doesn’t get the same treatment, especially as Robinson has already confirmed to an excited fan that Do Revenge will be gay. Fingers crossed, gays!

Do Revenge is set to release in the UK on September 16.
