Complexity and Lenovo partner to host summer esports camps that promote diversity

On Thursday, Complexity Gaming and Lenovo announced that they have partnered to hold two, week-long camps this summer for girls and underserved children with the goal of increasing the accessibility and diversity of gaming, which will start on July 25. Lenovo will cover all associated costs for these camps.

“The Dallas-Fort Worth area has a strong gaming culture, and that lifelong passion is often discovered at an early age,” said Jason Lake, Founder & CEO, Complexity Gaming, and Global Head of Esports, GameSquare Esports in a press release. “With Lenovo, we’re able to proactively highlight social and educational opportunities in gaming for those new to the space, as well as have a hand in helping local youth take their ideas to the next level.”

Both camps will be held at the Complexity Gaming headquarters at The Star in Frisco, Texas. One will be the “Digital Creators: Esports” program, which will focus on “gameplay skills and effective strategies for creating videos and other digital content.” This camp will run from July 25 through July 29 and is open to girls ages 12-15. The other is “STEAM Party,” which will use robots, LEGO, snap circuits and more to teach the participants about coding, design, and engineering. It will run from August 1 through August 5 and is open to children 6-9, though eligibility is based on income. Each camp will also reinforce smart, safe habits online and educate kids on the importance of anti-toxicity and inclusivity, according to the organizers.

“The enormous scale and momentum of the gaming industry is undeniable,” said Lenovo NA Chief Marketing Officer Gerald Youngblood in the press release. “Children are engaging with games and gaming content daily, and by partnering with an industry leader like Complexity, Lenovo is expanding the ways in which we are helping young people learn and grow from their gaming experience.”

Registration is now open and players can sign up for either camp now.
