Valorant Game Changers Championship comes to Berlin in November
On Monday, the Valorant Champions Tour announced that the Game Changers (Valorant’s marginalized gender league) 2022 Championship tournament will take place in Berlin, Germany from November 15-20. This is the first global event for Game Changers, and will be the first in-person (LAN) event for many of the participating teams.
“VCT Game Changers is a new program which will supplement the competitive season by creating new opportunities and exposure for women within VALORANT esports. The competitive VALORANT community is both diverse and incredibly global, and our esport should reflect that fact. Through Game Changers, we hope to build towards a VALORANT Champions Tour that is more inclusive and representative of our community.”
Though women (including trans women) are predominately represented in the Game Changers scene, there are also nonbinary and agender players as well.
As of this announcement, there’s currently no information about which venue will host the Valorant Game Changers Championship. Previous esports events for Riot Games titles, like 2021 VCT Masters 3 and VCT Champions, were also held in the German city, where Riot houses its LEC studio.
Six regions will be represented at the event: North America (two teams), Brazil (one team), Latin America (one team), Europe Middle East and Africa (two teams), East Asia (one team), and Asia Pacific (one team). The full list of qualified teams has not been released yet, but strong contenders will be North America’s Cloud9 White and EMEA’s G2 Gozen.
The competitors will face off in a double-elimination bracket – a format where there is an upper and lower bracket – so teams are able to lose once without completely falling out of the tournament. Any teams who fall in the first few rounds will still have the chance to fight their way to the finals. Those who get to compete will gain valuable tournament experience, and the chance at the circuit’s first international title.
